Ma Huateng: VR/AR and other technologies will profoundly affect the user experience in the terminal from Baidu VR

Recently, the National People's Congress, Tencent Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ma Huateng held a press conference in Beijing. It explains Tencent's development strategy, the layout of artificial intelligence and other technologies.

Ma Huateng held a press conference in Beijing

A reporter said that he had heard that Ma Huateng proposed internally: "Tencent is going to do a technology company in the future. Does this mean that Tencent strategy has been adjusted?" To this Ma Huateng answered, mentioning technology is an anxiety: "through technology Progress will make it possible for companies to remain strategically high."

He further pointed out: "Technology is an insurmountable thing. Especially when AI is more popular, this aspect (technical gap) is more obvious." "Including many other aspects - AR, VR, etc., in terms of the terminal It will profoundly affect people's user experience, and human-computer interaction is always a core."

Then he explained the layout and original intention of Tencent in research and development: “The evolution of human-computer interaction, from PC to mobile phone, may go to the glasses of the retina in the future, even through brain waves, the current of the skin can produce some interactions, may cause many industries So why does Tencent say that the R & D applet is also focused on the future, and that the computing environment for this application may not be the software on the PC, nor a website on the browser, or the App on mobile phones, but a Scenes and calculated code are fluid, dynamic code."

“So our initial investment, R&D and experimentation are indispensable. And we are also increasingly feeling that if we only do pure software and pure service just like in the past, we may lose the commanding heights in some areas in the future.”

"Even if you don't produce hardware, but you must pay attention to how the hardware evolves, and who can become partners with you on the hardware and explore trends in this area. This is also a big change."

“For example, is it possible that future robots will combine AI with many elements such as vision, neurology, mechanical engineering, and so on, which will have a profound impact on our lives and work? I think this is all about us as a technology company. Or some areas that Internet companies should pay more attention to."

In answering the reporter’s question next, Ma Huateng also stated that he is very interested in the many “future-looking Internet technologies” just mentioned.

In fact, at the same time last year, Ma Huateng once stated in the media interview that: "Tencent has the most extensive VR application scenarios. We, as service providers and aggregators, encourage and support hardware manufacturers to cooperate." He predicted that the next two or three years, the VR industry will gradually mature, "Tencent hopes to create some samples, put forward some standards," will "build VR ecology."

In July of the same year, Tencent did publish a VR platform called Solar, which is based on game-based VR social networking.

In September last year, when Ma Huateng attended the Global Forum of Tsinghua Management, he also expressed that Tencent’s ecological space will expand on a large scale under the promotion of “Internet+” and “New Technology+”. Ecological expansion will inevitably begin on a series of breakthrough new technologies such as AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), and AR (Augmented Reality).

In addition, during the two-hour communication meeting this year, Ma Huateng also introduced seven suggestions he had brought in this year's two sessions, and responded to questions about the sharing of bicycles, small programs, and public payment readings most concerned by the outside world.
