Mitsubishi Electric to Establish Power Transformer Plant in U.S.

In early morning on February 15, Beijing time, Mitsubishi Electric Corp announced on Monday that it will invest about 18 billion yen (about 200 million U.S. dollars) to establish a power transformer plant in Memphis, USA, Mitsubishi Electric expects. The demand for replacement of power grid facilities in the region will remain strong. Mitsubishi Electric expects to add 275 employees here.

Brian Heery, chairman and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, said on Monday that the 350,000-square-foot facility will be Mitsubishi Electric's largest investment in the United States in recent years. The power transformer plant is planned to be built in an industrial park near the Mississippi River and is expected to open in 2013.

Heery said the company will receive tens of millions of dollars in tax benefits from the U.S. government for more than 15 years. Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said that the country is promoting the construction of infrastructure and roads.

In the past few months, several large companies have announced that they will establish factories in Memphis.
