NXP and Changan Automobile Announce Long-Term Strategic Partnership

Shanghai/Chengdu, China, August 25, 2017 - NXP Semiconductors (Nasdaq: NXPI), a global leader in secure and connected automotive solutions, announced today at the Changan International Auto Show that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Changan Automobile. Together, they plan to engage in extensive and long-term collaboration focused on developing cutting-edge technologies, jointly establishing industry standards, and promoting the widespread adoption of innovative solutions. This partnership aims to create a tighter and more efficient integration between semiconductor technology advancements and the evolving needs of the automotive industry. The signing ceremony took place during the exhibition, marking a significant milestone in the relationship between NXP and Changan Automobile. Both entities expressed their excitement about working together to build a highly competitive car entertainment platform that will drive innovation and enhance China's automotive sector. As part of this collaboration, Changan Automobile will leverage NXP’s i.MX6 application processors, which have already been widely adopted, along with the latest i.MX8 series processors (such as the i.MX 8QuadMax, 8QuadPlus, 8Quad, 8QuadXPlus, 8DualXPlus, and 8DualX), car radio chips like Dirana 3, amplifiers, PMIC power management units, CAN transceivers, and other components. These technologies will support Changan’s "InCall" intelligent car entertainment system across all model lines, fostering the creation of a sustainable competitive edge within the automotive entertainment information platform. Looking ahead, the two companies will explore further innovations in areas such as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications, Near Field Communication (NFC) identification, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). By pushing the boundaries of design, they envision transforming automobiles from mere modes of transport into mobile information hubs, thereby fueling broader industrial progress. Li Wei, Vice President of Changan Automobile, highlighted that product competitiveness remains central to market success. He noted that intelligent networking represents the future trajectory of the automotive industry. Changan began exploring smart vehicles seven years ago and has consistently deepened its research efforts in relevant domains through cross-sector partnerships. NXP, renowned globally for its leadership in automotive electronics technology and R&D resources, shares similar ambitions with Changan. Their past collaborations have yielded mutual benefits, laying the groundwork for a robust, enduring alliance. With this strategic partnership now formalized, deeper engagements in critical tech domains promise to refine Changan’s offerings further, synchronize them with global advances, and solidify its pioneering role in China’s automotive innovation landscape. Zheng Li, NXP’s Senior Vice President and President of Greater China, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the alignment between NXP’s ethos of continuous self-improvement and Changan’s pioneering spirit. NXP boasts unparalleled expertise in automotive semiconductors, driven by its strong R&D capabilities and rich technical heritage. Through open dialogues and collaborative initiatives, NXP seeks to deliver tailored advanced technologies and solutions, reinforcing its dedication to the Chinese market. Zheng expressed optimism about fostering joint innovation with domestic partners, aiming to invigorate local industries via cross-border interactions. In the digital era, approximately 90% of automotive innovations stem from electronic technologies. As a pioneer in automotive electronics and secure connected car innovations, NXP leads in areas like ADAS, infotainment systems, in-vehicle networks, and V2X communications. For instance, in September 2016, NXP collaborated with Changan Automobile and Neusoft Group to form the "China Automotive Information Security Common Interest Group," driving the creation and implementation of hardware-based automotive cybersecurity standards. Similarly, in May 2017, NXP joined the National Intelligent Networked Auto (Shanghai) Pilot Demonstration Zone, supporting China’s first large-scale DSRC-based vehicle-to-everything testing initiative in Shanghai. Given Changan Automobile’s status as China’s largest automaker and innovator in autonomous driving, this partnership holds immense potential to offer superior products to consumers while propelling China’s automotive industry toward higher levels of sophistication.
