Quality problems can't be broken? The “Recall” of the LED industry event in the first half of 2017

In recent years, China has become a major player in the global lighting market, with its LED lighting exports on a steady upward trajectory. However, there’s a stark contrast to this success: an increasing number of recalls of these products in international markets, particularly within Europe. According to data from Gaogong LED, during the first half of this year, the European Commission's non-food rapid alert system (RAPEX) has issued more than ten recalls of LED products manufactured in China. The recalled products have primarily included LED floodlights, LED light strings, energy-saving LED lamps, and desk lamps. The countries initiating these recalls include Spain, France, Poland, Bulgaria, and others. In July, a domestic LED lamp exported to the Czech Republic was recalled by RAPEX. The product, branded as LUMENIX and named GU10 LED LAMP, falls under OECD Portal Category 78000000 (electrical). The recall was due to an unreasonable design that allowed for loose connections, leading to potential leakage issues. The product failed to meet EU standards EN62560 and the low voltage directive. Moving back to May, a domestic LED grow light shipped to Germany was also recalled. The notified country for this recall was Germany, with the product named LED PLANTGROW LIGHT, categorized under OECD Portal Category 78000000 (electrical). The issue was related to inadequate insulation of the power cord, posing an electric shock risk to users. The product did not comply with European standards EN60598 and the low voltage directive. Additionally, a domestic light string exported to Spain was recalled. This time, the brand was TIGER, categorized under OECD Portal Category 78000000 (electrical appliances). The recall was prompted by the product's design, which made it easy for children to disassemble and potentially choke on small parts. The product did not meet EU standards EN60598 and the low voltage directive. In Poland, a string of LED lights was also recalled. The brand, LED sLight Pro, is categorized under OECD Portal Category 78 million (electrical). The reason for the recall was poor design and manufacturing, including a loosely fitted power plug and lack of protective measures for the power cord. Users could accidentally touch live parts, making the product non-compliant with EU standards EN60598 and the low voltage directive. Another domestic LED desk lamp exported to Hungary was recalled. The brand, Ling hang zhi xing, is categorized under OECD Portal Category 78 million (electrical). The recall was due to an unreasonable base design that could lead to electric shock risks when inserting the plug. The product failed to comply with EN60598 and the low voltage directive. In April, a domestic LED floodlight exported to Finland was recalled. The brand was LED·sLight Pro, categorized under OECD Portal Category 78 million (electrical). The issue was with the cable sheath, which was not cold-resistant and would crack under bending stress. Damaged covers posed a risk of electric shock, making the product non-compliant with EN60598 and the low voltage directive. In March, a collapsible LED desk lamp exported to Hungary was recalled. The brand was DP, categorized under OECD Portal Category 78 million (electrical). The recall was due to the size of the battery charger, which allowed users to touch live parts when plugged in. Additionally, the internal wiring was too thin, posing a fire risk in the event of a short circuit. The product did not comply with the Low Voltage Directive or EN 605980. A domestic LED bulb exported to Croatia was also recalled. The brand was Sole, categorized under OECD Portal Category 78000000 (electrical). The issue was insufficient insulation and inadequate spacing between live parts and the body. The product did not meet the Low Voltage Directive or EN 62560. A domestic Christmas light string exported to Spain was recalled. The brand was CASA, categorized under OECD Portal Category 78 million (electrical). The recall was due to the non-waterproof nature of the plug, making the product non-compliant with the Low Voltage Directive and EN 60598. In February, a domestic LED floodlight exported to Poland was recalled. The cable was unsuitable for outdoor use, posing a risk of leakage and lacking necessary safety information. The product did not comply with the Low Voltage Directive or EN 60598. Another domestic LED lamp exported to France was recalled. The product was prone to moisture damage, leading to internal damage or fire. With two reported incidents, the product did not comply with the low voltage directive. Lastly, a domestic LED lighting chain exported to Poland was recalled. The product had a design flaw that posed an electric shock risk and could cause fires due to cable insulation issues. The product failed to comply with the low voltage directive and European standards EN 60958 and IEC60884. Despite the growing exports, these recalls highlight the need for stricter quality control and adherence to international standards to ensure consumer safety.
