Real-time clock chip M41T62 with built-in crystal has been put into mass production

High-tech product designers continue to focus on miniaturization. STMicroelectronics (ST) announced the world's smallest crystal and real-time clock (RTC) combo chip with time, calendar, and alarm functions. STMicroelectronics has successfully integrated the smallest real-time clock die and matching crystal in the same package size as the smallest crystal on the market today, creating the world's smallest, low-power real-time 3.2 x 1.5mm footprint Clock and Crystal combo chip.

The M41T62 is especially suitable for battery-powered portable product designs. The low operating voltage of 1.3V to 4.4V allows this clock chip to be powered directly from a Li-Ion battery, operating at only 350nA. Many highly-integrated microcontrollers have an on-chip real-time clock, but these chips usually have limited functionality and require the addition of an external crystal. Unlike designs using microcontrollers or discrete solutions, this integrated solution solves the problem of matching the crystal to the real-time clock, and sometimes matching the crystal to the real-time clock is a tricky problem.

Francesco Italia, Director of the Sensors and Microactuators Business Unit of STMicroelectronics' MEMS, Sensors and High-Performance Analog Device Products Division, said: "The advanced real-time clock is built into such a small-sized crystal package, which brings the best of all portable devices. The real-time clock solution. The new product not only saves space, optimizes power consumption, but can also be directly charged by a lithium battery. This complete solution solves the problem of matching the crystal oscillator and the real-time clock that cause designers headaches."

The M41T62 also simplifies product design. A stable 32 kHz signal can be generated at startup to ensure that today's processors and subsystems such as Bluetooth modules can be reliably started. Other features that can enhance design and system performance include oscillator failure detection (OFD), which helps the system detect power failures. With shutdown timestamp and battery weak detection, there is no need to add external devices to the microcontroller's real-time clock. The M41T62 also meets UL certification standards and built-in reverse diodes.

The M41T62 improves system performance for features that rely on data logging, time stamping services, interval monitoring, or synchronization systems. Such as SLR digital cameras, GPS receivers, portable multimedia players, card readers, portable medical monitoring equipment (such as blood glucose meters).

The main features of the M41T62:

●3.2 x 1.5mm lead-free ceramic package ● Real-time clock and crystal oscillator combo chip, the package size is equivalent to the industry's smallest crystal device ● 350nA at 3V ultra-low power consumption ● 1.3V to 4.4V low operating voltage ● boot Has a stable 32kHz clock signal. ● Oscillator failure detection to ensure safe operation. ● Minimum timing voltage of 1.0V. ● Programmable alarm clock and watchdog M41T62 has been put into mass production, using LCC8 lead-free package.
