The robot that walks on the human body is the future of wearable technology

Tencent digital news (compilation: language) wearable devices are usually fixed in several forms, such as wrist or clothing, so different forms are not always so fixed. However, at a seminar in Tokyo this week, researchers from MIT and Stanford University demonstrated a new type of microrobot Rovables jointly developed by both parties. This miniature robot can automatically "crawling" vertically on our clothes, so in the future we don't always have to wear a piece of clothing with smart features and it doesn't change.

This kind of robot can move freely on our clothes with the help of clothes buttons, collars and other parts. It has built-in a variety of sensors and artificial intelligence technology, and even has a part of autonomous mobility awareness. The researchers described a scenario where we could climb into our pockets when we didn't need them, and wait until we needed them.

The researchers proposed some examples of the use of this miniature robot, for example, they can form a display screen or a new e-mail reminder on our body through multiple different robots. At the same time when we roll up the sleeves these robots will automatically climb out and become warning lights when we cycle.

Thanks to its built-in detector, the Rovables robot can navigate in three-dimensional space. The researchers currently only have a prototype, and therefore have not yet developed the level of capability required to handle complex path planning and scene algorithms.

This robot has a built-in battery system and it takes about 45 minutes to fully use it. However, researchers said that if the robot remains in motion, the battery life can be extended accordingly. In the future, they will also add wireless charging capabilities to Rovables.

Although the Rovables micro-robots are still just a laboratory project, the future robots can be everywhere in our bodies with the support of signals. But now, wearable devices are still only in their infancy, and some of them have even been thrown into the drawers to eat ash.
