(Original title: Running a minute: A11 bionic chip performance comparable to 13-inch MBP)
Apple’s newly released iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are equipped with a six-core A11 chip. Apple claims that this chip has achieved some major improvements over the A10 chip used in the iPhone 7 series. It has two high-performance cores and 4 low-power, high-performance cores.
According to foreign media MacRumors, early Geekbench running results for the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X show that the performance of the A11 chip is not only better than that of the A10, but also beats the A10X Fusion chip used by the iPad Pro, and even follows Apple’s latest 13-inch MacBook. Pro uses the same chip.
In the 12 Geekbench runs, the average single-core score of the A11 chip was 4169 points, with a maximum of 4274 points, an average multicore score of 9836 points, and a maximum of 10438 points.
In contrast, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro equipped with the A10 Fusion chip has an average single-core score of 3887 points and an average multicore score of 9210 points. The 2017 single-core MacBook Pro with the Intel Core 3.5GHz i7-7567U chip has an average single-core score of 4592 points and an average multicore score of 9602 points.
These running points indicate that the A11 has performed better on multi-core tasks and is also comparable to Apple's high-end notebooks in terms of single-core tasks. In addition, compared to other low-end MacBook Pro models in 2017, the A11 score was much higher. The 2.3GHz model scored 4321/9183 and the 3.1GHz model scored 4227/8955.
On the iPhone, the performance of the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus is much higher than that of the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 has an average single-core score of 3327 points and an average multi-core score of 5542 points.
According to Apple, the performance core of the A11 chip is 25% faster than the A10 chip, and the efficiency core is 70% faster than the A10. The A11 chip is more suitable for multi-threaded tasks because the second-generation performance controller can handle six cores at the same time.
The iPhone 8 series phones will officially enter the market on September 22, and we will learn more about Apple's improvement on the A11 chip.
