Lenovo's servers require the first two generations of products in the world

On April 15th, Lenovo’s Beijing R&D Center hosted ThinkServer Server Media Communication. The media reporters experienced a different Lenovo enterprise-class business trip. In the North Research Center, the author visited the test links of many enterprise-level products of Lenovo, and communicated with Lenovo's server marketing and R&D executives. The interviewees included Wang Bingbing, Senior Director of the Global Server R&D Center of Lenovo Group Enterprise Products Group and Xie Zhengwei, Director of Product Development of IPDC, Lenovo Group Enterprise Business Group. The two executives responded to questions from media reporters about the development of Lenovo's servers.

Compared to other companies Lenovo PC+ transition more secure

The three major server companies that once occupied 75% of Intel's chip revenues, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and IBM, have begun to fade out. With the PC market gradually declining, these three companies have different strategies. Dell's privatization, Hewlett-Packard's focus on the enterprise level, and IBM's sale of low-end server services have clearly differentiated the traditional IT giant's business. Lenovo started to attack the enterprise-class market after earning an opportunity in the consumer market.

After the acquisition of IBM x86 servers, Lenovo conducted a new restructuring, and established four business groups: personal computers, mobile, enterprise-class, and cloud services, with the overall structure of the large area unchanged. The association’s independence as a business group at the enterprise level is clearly a matter of high profitability of the enterprise-class products and the high value of the solutions, which is enough for Lenovo to go even further.

Dell’s prior privatization report showed that its PC business still accounted for more than half of the company’s, but 30% of its operating income came from the service and solution departments, which accounted for half of Dell’s total profits. Although HP has “come early in the morning” in the PC and mobile sectors, it is still a good thing to push its core business to the enterprise level, not only merging the traditional PC business and printing business, but also in the enterprise. Business services such as computing services were reorganized.

In contrast, Lenovo's enterprise-class computing is relatively late, but it also has a high starting point after the acquisition of IBM's x86 server business. Last year, it announced that its goal of becoming the world's top server in the enterprise-class market in 2015 has been achieved ahead of schedule. . We have reason to expect that Lenovo will have a better performance in the future.

Product overlap? Two-line operation is more suitable

Lenovo’s existing server products are mostly 1-2-way servers, which are largely coincident with the acquisition of IBM x86 servers. Wang Bing Bing said that these overlapping products will not be integrated in the short term but will be operated in a double-line manner. No changes will be made to the support and purchase of the original product. However, after Lenovo and IBM have better integrated business, it is likely to be considered.

Lenovo's regional R&D teams perform their duties

Wang Huanbing said during the visit that Lenovo's current global development layout is very clear. Beijing, Taipei, Brazil, and the United States all have professional personnel with more than 10 years of industry experience in development work. Brazil's R&D center is responsible for the development of software, the US R&D center is responsible for the guidance of industry trends, and Beijing and Taipei conduct overall R&D work. This approach can effectively utilize local advantages and maximize efficiency.

Two generations of products will be the first throne of servers after 4 years

Analysys International predicts that by 2016, the enterprise-class mobile application market will reach 66.63 billion yuan. In recent years, the compound growth rate of the enterprise-class mobile application market has remained at or below 65.4%, which means that every three years, the market will expand by three times. It is in this market that Lenovo's Wang Huan Bing confidently stated that Lenovo is able to sit on the throne of global servers for the first time in two generations.
