Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (SMM) has recently joined hands with the New Materials Science Research Institute of Tohoku University in Japan to develop a red phosphor that is silicon-containing oxide-based red phosphor. .
The two parties established cooperation in October 2010 and successfully developed the first such phosphor, with a spectrum spanning 600-625 nm, from orange to red. Compared to conventional nitrogen-based phosphors, this phosphor can be produced at lower temperatures and conventional pressures, avoiding the use of expensive equipment and reducing the cost of phosphors. The development uses modified propylene glycol silane (PGMS), a patented water-soluble silicon compound that is expected to accelerate the development of high brightness and other new phosphors.
