While their designs share similarities, the A800 focuses more on the 1.5T+6MT mid-range model for test drives. This 1.5T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum output of 156 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed manual developed by Changan, offering a smooth and responsive driving experience.

There are some real value-for-money features within this price range.

Changan's three key technologies still offer a level of reliability. Compared to the previous 1.6L+5MT combination, the new 1.5T+6MT setup is a clear upgrade. Even this new powertrain brings some pleasant surprises—starting is smoother, and the acceleration is much stronger than the 1.6L version. The power delivery from the 1.5T engine is linear, with minimal turbo lag, making the driving experience very natural. Additionally, both low and high-speed engine noise is well controlled.

With the 6MT transmission, fuel efficiency improves slightly, and the gear shifts feel precise and solid. Driving this 6MT feels similar to a 5MT, but it doesn't feel out of place at all.

The clutch pedal has a longer travel, which can be a bit confusing at first. During the adaptation period, the left foot may feel tired, but several media colleagues I spoke to found it acceptable and even appreciated the longer travel as a positive trait. The clutch engagement is crisp and well-adjusted.

The accelerator pedal is soft and light, typical of Changan’s design style. The overall driving experience is comfortable and user-friendly.

The Changan A800 uses a torsion beam rear suspension instead of the previous McPherson independent setup. Despite this change, the suspension offers good support during cornering and doesn’t make you feel uneasy. In terms of ride quality, it performs well, though it becomes stiffer over large potholes or speed bumps. Still, it handles these conditions better than many competitors in the same segment.

As mentioned earlier, the A800 and Lingxuan share a similar aesthetic and are designed with today’s household preferences in mind. The exterior and interior are clean and straightforward, with few design highlights. However, this simplicity makes it highly appealing—after all, practicality is key for families, and it looks good too.

In addition to its improved performance, the A800 also stands out with its air purification system. During a test drive, a media colleague tried smoking inside the car. At first, the air became quite polluted, but after about 10 minutes, the A800’s air purifier brought the air back to a safe and breathable condition.
