PS4 look! The Japanese favorite game console turned out to be it

Do you remember the fear that Japanese consumers faced when Nintendo's Switch game console dominated the market? Back in 2017, the high demand for the Switch led to a shortage of supply, causing long lines and fierce competition among buyers. Many Japanese retailers had to sell the consoles through "Yaohao," or ticket systems, where customers would queue for hours just to get their hands on one. It wasn't uncommon to see thousands of people waiting outside stores, eager to purchase the latest gaming machine.

Interestingly, in Japan, the most popular game console isn't what many might expect. While PlayStation 4 and Xbox are widely known globally, they haven't captured the same level of enthusiasm in Japan as Nintendo’s Switch. In fact, recent sales data shows that the Switch has completely outperformed its competitors. According to reports, the Switch sold over 84,593 units in a single week, while the PS4 only managed 23,613 units—nearly four times less. This trend highlights the deep-rooted popularity of Nintendo’s hybrid console in the country.

Nintendo recently launched a new distribution round in Japan, and it didn’t take long for retailers to run out of stock. From electronics stores to online platforms, the Switch is consistently selling out almost immediately after being released. This overwhelming demand suggests that Japanese gamers aren't just interested in any console—they're passionate about the unique experience that the Switch offers. Whether it's for home or on-the-go gaming, the Switch has become a must-have for many in Japan.

It seems that the love for gaming in Japan isn't limited to one platform—it's all about the Switch.
