San Diego introduces GE Smart Lighting and LED Street Lights to save $250,000 annually

The City of San Diego recently announced that they will work with GE Lighting to introduce GE Intelligent Lighting Systems and LED street lights to transform road lighting in downtown areas. The lighting system will be in place this spring. By then, the local government will save more than $250,000 in annual energy consumption.

Highlights of the project include:

• The system will be installed at the beginning of this month and will be completed in spring 2014. It is expected to save $254,000 per year for San Diego. • After the project is fully implemented, 3000 miles of traditional light source street lights will be replaced. • GE LightGridTM Smart Technology Innovative GPS Positioning technology will accurately calculate the energy usage of each street lamp. • Specially designed decorative street lighting with embedded wireless control technology, so that they can retain the original historical design.
It is understood that the new system will not only improve the street lighting effect of San Diego, but also reform the existing urban lighting system. Because this new technology automatically transfers data to the LightGrid network, accurate energy measurements are made for each pole, allowing the city to pay for the actual energy it consumes.
