A British team wants to achieve universal VR shopping in 2030

Tim Flemming is creating a virtual shopping environment for McDonald's, Ferrari and John Lewis, the UK's premium department store chain.

The founder of Future Visual said that virtual reality can change the way people shop. Speaking at the WIRED Retail 2016 conference in London, he said: "The commercial street has not changed much in the past 100 years."

Mobile payments and online shopping are the biggest revolutions in years, and VR may cause another shift. Flemming pointed out that if people do not shop in VR by 2030, it sounds crazy.

For the retail industry, he said that VR has the potential to create a "authorized and unlimited experience" for shoppers. Earlier this year, the entrepreneur had created a virtual shopping environment for customers with John Lewis and Innovate UK.

In the VR room they developed, customers were free to place furniture, watch from any angle and drag freely, change colors, change wallpaper, and select different furniture in real time. In addition, customers can change the time of day and night to see if furniture will be any different at night.

According to Flemming, VR shopping is about creating a real experience and realizing a brand new shopping experience that can only be created through VR. Although he also admitted that both the hardware and the content, the current technology is not yet mature, but he believes that in the next three to five years will change. He explained: "The next three to five years will be very interesting."

In the first half of 2016, Flemming launched a project for McDonald's to allow McDonald's employees to show their food supply chains to customers. In addition, they also created a virtual garage for the Ferrari F1 team.

Prior to founding Future Visual, Fleming also founded Plastic Reality for creative promotion for musicians and creative industries. His partners include the famous artist Fatboy Slim.

In 2007, he founded Plastic Pictures “to meet the growing demand of corporate users for content”. Plastic Pictures also became the preferred supplier of BP, Unilever and Nokia. Flemming sold its shares in Plastic Pictures in March 2014.
