This year's computer peripherals market has been exceptionally unusual, with most accessories experiencing price hikes due to various reasons. Firstly, the production of NAND flash memory has been largely taken over by mobile devices, resulting in rising prices for memory and solid-state drives. Then, the efforts of cryptocurrency miners left us without a single graphics card during the 618 shopping festival. Even cost-effective mining equipment saw price increases, leading users to speculate about Intel-related disasters, whether it was a fire, earthquake, or flood. Intel’s Core G4560 being overly powerful has somewhat disrupted the normal performance of other CPUs, which explains the wild speculations.
The high-end graphics cards have mostly been snatched up by miners, yet the GT1030 remains unaffected by this trend. Frankly speaking, this card is a bit hard to get behind.
The GT1030 is widely referred to as the "IQ Test Card," and even the price-increased GTX1050 has earned this nickname. However, the GTX1050 is only slightly less cost-effective, maintaining the same level of performance. Other brands follow a similar pattern, but Gigabyte, for instance, has more enthusiastic fans.
Wikipedia mentions that the MAXSUN GTX1050 Terminator 2G features a core code of GP107, equipped with 640 stream processors. Built based on NVIDIA’s PG210 public reference design, this ensures stable performance. It includes a standard DVI port, a DP1.4 port, and an HDMI2.0 port. The power supply design, based on the PG210 public reference, employs a 2+1 phase power supply, as the TDP of the video card is only 75 watts. With 25 reviews, it's received 1 original rating, 3 good ratings, and 10 favorable price ratings. It’s worth checking out.
Then there’s the game console, which was delightful to purchase the G5460 earlier. It was truly ahead of its time.
Even though the G4560 is powerful and holds its own against the i5, it still suffers from the common issue of thermal throttling in Intel’s lineup. Relying solely on the CPU for gaming isn’t realistic, and it’s just a matter of regret for those who didn’t invest in a graphics card.
After discussing these valuable items, let’s move on to memory and SSDs. Memory prices have been volatile, plummeting sharply last year. This year has been particularly exciting, with SSDs becoming a focal point.
Due to practical application gaps, certain memory brands like fishing rods or cool beasts have fallen out of favor because they don’t feel as impactful. However, this is not the case for SSDs. Higher performance translates to faster real-world speeds, and this psychological boost is multiplied.
Marvell has introduced a new controller, changing the perception of SSDs from luxury items to affordable options. I’ve been eager to try this new Marvell 1120 controller. This OV Sardinian drive not only uses this controller but also incorporates an interesting hard disk technology.
Compared to many SSDs using the 1120 controller, this one has a notably smaller PCB size, suggesting that the compact design is more about packaging than the controller itself. It’s said that energy savings can be achieved through circuit design. High integration reduces power consumption and heat generation, making it efficient.

This time around, we’re diving into a silent version of a chassis. Both sides of the board and the top are lined with soundproofing material. While noise reduction claims might be exaggerated, the reduction in noise is noticeable. The price is reasonable, and it comes with 3 fans and a radiator. I’m unsure if it’s available everywhere.
Sama (SAMA) Thain 7 (silent version) Zhongta mute computer chassis (drawn panel / independent power supply warehouse / supports ATX motherboards, water cooling, long graphics cards, rear lines) - 259 Yuan, available on JD.
Nowadays, nearly all chassis return to the basics, making cable management easier. This domestically produced chassis has a thoughtful design. As shown in the image, there’s a tangle of cables, including three fans from the chassis. They use a standard 3PIN fan interface, and typically, the chassis would simply connect these directly to the motherboard.
However, there’s a HUB cable in the package, indicating that while the build quality might not match foreign brands, the attention to detail reflects a craftsman spirit.
The standard nine-point silicone grease, unknown to many, is not scientifically developed.
After securing the motherboard, I encountered a problem and wondered who to contact for a replacement.
The artisan spirit mentioned earlier is somewhat awkward. Unfortunately, many cases face this issue. Popular water-cooling or single air cooling solutions avoid this dilemma, possibly one of the reasons traditional cooling methods are gradually fading.
Removing the radiator requires applying new thermal paste. Since there’s no luxury material, using premium thermal paste compensates for this.
Cooler Master MasterGel Pro Thermal Paste - 99 Yuan, available on JD Global Purchase.
After some effort, the gaming setup was finally complete. Given the low heat output of the G4560, the provided radiator suffices. However, compatibility remains an issue, and some components may need replacement later.
Turning it on and running a benchmark test showed the computer location was far from the router. An external wireless network card solved the Ethernet cable issue, yielding decent results. My home router prioritizes wired connections, so when a wired device consumes significant bandwidth, the Wi-Fi connection weakens. Despite being an enterprise-grade router, it’s an entry-level model. Wi-Fi relies on a common USB external wireless network card.
For smooth gaming, a graphics card is crucial. The performance of the GTX1050 isn’t exceptional, but it’s sufficient for casual gaming. Running DX12’s Time Spy didn’t yield impressive scores, but it’s adequate for non-demanding games.
Benchmarking isn’t always intuitive. Let’s try a game to see how the GTX1050 performs.
Tomb Raider 10 improved;
The Tomb Raider series is my favorite. Starting from Tomb Raider 9, the focus shifted from ancient tombs to exploring mysterious relics, with the multiplayer mode evolving into an FPS-style shootout devoid of Laura’s adventurous style. Many believe the biggest regret of the series is its lack of multiplayer tasks. Despite the excellent production quality, the lack of interaction makes it forgettable.
The game automatically detects medium settings, and I let it decide. Benchmarking in 1080P shows that Tomb Raider 10 demands a decent graphics card. This performance should handle other games comfortably.
Killer 6;
Compared to Killer 5, the hardware requirements have increased, particularly the graphics card demands. This type of game emphasizes IQ over skill, which isn’t my forte.
King of Fighters 14;
SNK’s classic sequel, King of Fighters 14, recently released on PC. Despite changes in the original team, the gameplay has evolved into a 3D experience. Moves retain the basic hits from previous generations, combined with KOF2002’s ability to cancel consecutive attacks, each character has dazzling 3D animations upon finishing moves. Additionally, the light punch x3 combo is mindless. I feel the game is transitioning from a competitive title into a visual showcase. For emotional gamers, I hope to see more new releases. (GIF shows KOF2002 hard straight cel.)
All characters’ finishing moves are showcased in a video, but unfortunately, the video quality is low.
The screen looks great, but it comes at a price. Each game completion requires a load time. The configuration requirements for King of Fighters 14 aren’t excessively high. The 1080P resolution is visually pleasing. To eliminate loading times, it’s best to install the entire game onto an SSD. Many games suffer from slow loading, and dedicating SSD space for frequently played titles significantly improves performance.
Thanks to the new controller, the continuous read/write speeds of this OV Sardinian drive are nearly peak. The commonly used SATA interface maxes out at 600MB/s. Loading games depends on hard disk read speed, and a fast SSD proves more beneficial than a high-end CPU.
Even when acting as a system disk, the read/write performance remains unaffected, showcasing the SSD’s algorithm efficiency. I filled the drive with three games, along with the system, leaving only 20% idle capacity, yet it still runs smoothly. This indicates the OV SSD’s algorithm capability is commendable.
There’s no intention to add lighting to the setup, but some hardware comes with LED accents. The GTX1050 consumes only 75 watts, and normal operation won’t stress the cooling system.
Initially, I planned to try my favorite GTA5, but encountered some issues upon installation.
It’s evident that current low-end configurations suffice for popular games, allowing a decent gaming experience if high graphical fidelity isn’t a priority. SSDs play an indispensable role alongside GPUs. For games like King of Fighters 14 or online RPGs, fast SSDs reduce loading times and enhance seamless gameplay.
As summer approaches and students anticipate their holidays, online gaming becomes the primary form of entertainment. Preparations are underway, and more updates may follow.
