The founder of the Chinese urban SUV market is the Honda CR-V? No, Mitsubishi Outlander is the true originator!

Compared to traditional SUVs, compact SUVs offer smaller engine sizes and more affordable prices. Meanwhile, when compared to sedans, they boast higher ground clearance and better visibility, along with easier parking options and other practical benefits. This category is expected to grow increasingly popular among consumers, further fueling the heated market. Many people credit the Honda CR-V as the pioneer of China's urban SUV scene, but in reality, Mitsubishi Outlander was the true originator. Mitsubishi is widely recognized as the king of four-wheel-drive vehicles. For those familiar with rally racing, Mitsubishi’s record speaks for itself—seven victories at the U.S. rally. The Outlander, with its pure Mitsubishi lineage, is the authentic four-wheel-drive SUV designed for versatility across all terrains. The domestically produced Outlander will offer four versions powered by 2.0L and 2.4L engines. The official starting price ranges from 15.98 million to 22.38 million RMB, while the current import price stands between 19.98 million and 28.48 million RMB. The dimensions of the domestically produced Outlander measure 4695 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, 1680 mm in height, and boasts a wheelbase of 2670 mm. The locally manufactured Mitsubishi Outlander retains the original design of the imported model. The new X-shaped front grille is more dynamic than the previous shark-mouth design, featuring chrome accents and updated headlights, giving the vehicle a more sporty appearance. At the rear, the new taillights use LED technology, with minor adjustments to the reverse lights compared to the imported version. Additionally, the phrase "Guangzhou Mitsubishi" is added to the right side of the trunk to signify its domestic production. Overall, the rear styling of the new car feels more cohesive than the front. The interior design remains largely unchanged from the imported version, with upgrades such as a transition from a 7-inch touchscreen to an 8-inch embedded multimedia system. Physical buttons around the system have been streamlined, and the new interface supports features like navigation, Baidu CarLife, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. High-end models will feature leather seats and a two-tone interior design. Domestically produced Outlander will come with a 2+3+2 seven-seat layout, a rarity in China's joint-venture compact SUV segment. The legroom and headroom in the third row are acceptable for short trips. In terms of power, the domestic Outlander will retain its 2.0L and 2.4L engines, with the latter producing up to 192 horsepower. Transmission-wise, the engines will be paired with a CVT gearbox, and high-end models will also include the S-AWC Super All-Wheel Control four-wheel-drive system. Following the launch of the domestic Outlander, it will inevitably face stiff competition in the joint-venture compact SUV market. Within this segment, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Qashqai, and Honda CR-V are some of the top contenders. These Japanese compact SUVs are well-known to domestic consumers, each having its own strengths. While Mitsubishi Outlander has gained some recognition in the domestic market, it has historically been sold as an import, lacking the extensive user base that established competitors enjoy. However, Outlander does have its unique selling points, including its seven-seater configuration and the impressive S-AWC four-wheel-drive system. I believe that Guangzhou Mitsubishi Outlander will carve out its niche in this competitive market over time. [Image captions remain unchanged]
