According to IDC statistics, in the third quarter of this year (July to September), Xiaomi's sales in India reached a record 2 million. In the following October, sales in a single month exceeded one million. Previously, Xiaomi’s quarterly sales in India averaged between 100 and 1.5 million units.
According to Manu Jain, general manager of Xiaomi India, this is the best sales result in the history of Xiaomi India, with a year-on-year increase of 150%. And there is no lack of macro background reasons - the total shipments of the Indian smartphone market reached a record 32.3 million in the third quarter, an increase of 17.5% over the same period last year. Compared to the severe saturation of the domestic market, the Indian smartphone industry is ushered in the spring.
At present, Xiaomi ranks fourth in India with a market share of 7.5%, and lags behind the third-ranked Indian brand Micromax with a slight gap. The first and second names are Samsung (23%) and Lenovo (including Motorola, 9.6%). The goal of Lei Jun is that Xiaomi will be the first in India within three to five years (2017-2019).
IDC analysis said that Xiaomi's rapid growth in India in the third quarter benefited from the red rice Note 3 and the newly released red rice 3S. In terms of operation, it can be summarized into four advantages: 1. Development of offline market 2. New online market partner 3. Expanded product lineup 4. Increased production capacity. Among them, the last point is particularly important – currently more than 75% of Xiaomi’s mobile phones sold in India are produced by Foxconn’s factory in the southern city of Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports, the employees of Xiaomi's sales and service center in India have doubled this year to 160 people to improve the after-sales service.
