Sapphire Optoelectronics: Testing the MOCVD Market

China's semiconductor lighting industry is booming, and domestic companies have set off a wave of upstream investment and demand for MOCVD equipment. Recently, all domestic LED expansion plans and LED new factory construction are closely related to the ordering of large-scale MOCVD equipment. At the same time, the localization of MOCVD has become the focus of recent attention. In an exclusive interview with the media of the 7th China International Semiconductor Lighting Forum, Li Gang, general manager of Shanghai Lanbao Optoelectronic Materials Co., Ltd. revealed that Lanbao Optoelectronics is debugging its first-generation A380 epitaxial furnace.

China will become the largest chip foundry

Q: How big is the sapphire's light effect now?

Li Gang: We undertook Shanghai's project last year. The acceptance result was 103 lm/W, which was the result of last November. The results of the 863 project have not yet come out this year, but we believe it should be better than this, but it will not exceed 110-115 lm/W, which is estimated to be between 103-115 lm/W.

Q: Where is the competitive advantage of Sapphire relative to domestic products?

Li Gang: Sapphire, I don't want to talk because I am the general manager of Sapphire. I am asking a question now, where is the competitive advantage of all domestic chip manufacturers? I don't think so. What is the difference between ten MOCVD and 30 MOCVD? Just you are more than me. However, after 30 years and 50 years, MOCVD has expired, and the advantage has become a burden. Therefore, I think that all domestic chip manufacturers have no obvious advantages. Why do we say that our price is lower than that of crystal electricity? In fact, what we do is not worse than crystal electricity, but it is not famous. Not to say that it is a listed company. I am not a listed company. It is a Taiwan asset. I am a medium asset.

Q: The chip you just mentioned does not have much advantage. How do you feel about improving your chip function?

Li Gang: I think that in one to two or three years, big foreign companies will not make chips anymore. Do you see hundreds of epitaxial furnaces in large foreign companies? No, why? They didn't see much demand after three or five years? The reason is that they ended up doing Chinese, they are doing the brand. I think that after three years, Osram will not do the lights, nor do the chips. Who will do it? Mr. Li Bingjie will be the world's largest chip foundry. His goal is to set the OEM price and set up the profit sharing. This is the place. Bit pattern. Our current competitors are actually ourselves. Are we the same grade as Osram?

For another example, all the iPhones are made in the mainland. Do you say that the iPhone made in mainland China is competing with American apples? That is not a problem at all. One is how is the son of Laozi competing? In theory, the chip manufacturer finally It is the competition of domestic manufacturers, whoever gets the low cost will get the OEM.

Domestic MOCVD problem

Q: I know that you have a company that is doing MOCVD equipment. What kind of policy support does the country have?

Li Gang: In terms of policy support, there was support during the National 15th Five-Year Plan and supported two companies. The 11th Five-Year Supported three. The state believes that industrialization is not too smooth, so there was no support in the late 11th and 5th years. Twelve five should be more supportive, but not yet.

Q: What are the difficulties in domestic production of MOCVD equipment?

Li Gang: The biggest difficulty is that one person needs to take responsibility. Because MOCVD is a device that involves total design, styling, characterization, and electromechanical, it is a large project that is integrated, like a satellite. If you do equipment alone, there is no problem, if you have a great extension from the craft. But the people who listen to the equipment, or the people who are equipped to listen to the extension, that is, the chicken and the duck speak, the two people can never tell a piece, so I think this is the biggest problem in management.

The second problem is that the equipment company is not difficult to make an equipment. It is much simpler than the cost analysis below. But the key question is who is doing the process verification? For example, many factories are willing to provide the machine to me, let me do it for him. Craft, what I am worried about is that I have put a lot of effort into making the craft, but what good can I get from selling your machine to my competitors? So I can never make MOCVD because there is no company. Willing to do the craft.

Testing the MOCVD market

Q: What kind of planning does Sapphire have in the equipment?

Li Gang: Sapphire currently has a department to do the equipment. This department has set up a company, and there is a piece of equipment. This equipment has already completed all the preparation work, which means that we now have a MOCVD in the debugging process. We hope that at the China International Semiconductor Lighting Forum next year, we can show you the MOCVD of the first generation A380.

Q: Where is the main market position of Sapphire products? How many CDs do you think mainstream devices will be in the next three years?

Li Gang: Our positioning is still semiconductor lighting, because semiconductor lighting is still pursuing high efficiency and low cost. If you can do semiconductor lighting, then all applications such as display can do it because it meets high efficiency, high delivery, and low attenuation. As for a few machines for the mainstream, of course, a thousand machines are the best. You asked my first machine to be a few machines. Our A380 is a 68-piece machine, and the positioning is slightly higher than others. In fact, we are designing or planning. The 68-piece machine is just a snake out of the hole. We want to see what happens to foreigners. We really push the market mainstream products should be 68+, as to how much, depending on how these foreign big brothers respond to our domestic machines.
