Technical difficulty restricts domestic ICs from spurring foreign dimming market share

In 2013, it was a year of ice and fire for many IC manufacturers. In the first half of the year, the market believes that "the first year of LED lighting" is really coming, and various lighting companies have launched a large-scale investment in goods, which has driven the IC market to a great extent.

Although LED luminaires were distributed to the terminal channels, the market response was not as strong as expected. The pressure on accounts receivable brought by the lighting enterprises to allow them to have different levels of capital chain crisis in the second half of the year, and a number of LED lighting companies such as Zhongshan Xiongji, which had annual revenues of over 100 million, closed down.

Affected by this influence, the IC manufacturers in the domestic market were left out of the cold, and it was once thought that the tide of closure was coming.

If you must make a distinction between high- and low-end ICs, because the current IC control methods are not too different, the architecture is similar, and the number of peripheral components may be worse. In the final result, if the measured difference does exist, the difference in general lighting application is not too obvious, and the only difference is in the quality of large quantities. After the low-end products are in large quantities, the power supply variation is likely to be large, and the dimming curves of the lamps produced are different, and the initial brightness is also different. In the commercial field, the requirements for these parameters are very strict, and the consistency cannot be achieved. The enterprise must sacrifice the yield, so the cost is high.

Although domestic ICs have achieved considerable results in the non-dimming field, domestic companies are rarely involved in dimming ICs with technical difficulties. According to the current technological progress of IC manufacturers, in another year or two, it may be possible to threaten the market share of dimming ICs of foreign manufacturers.

At present, there are considerable market shares in the high-end market, including NXP, Texas Instruments, IWatt, PI, and ON Semiconductor. NXP and IWatt have strong technical strength in dimming. IWatt single-stage dimming has been done very well, and NXP can provide a variety of circuit architectures to meet different dimming applications. TI and PI also have dimming solutions, but the market share is not as high as the above two.

TI is positioned at the highest end and has a relatively high price. Although it is used by customers, it has fewer domestic major customers. PI's strength lies in high and low voltage integration, which can provide LED lighting customers with compact and compact AC-DC power supply. The characteristics of Ansonmei are to help customers solve various special design requirements, but from the market feedback, its technology is relatively inferior to the first-tier manufacturers such as TI, but the price is relatively cheap. From the published report, the overall gross profit of Ansonmei Company is about 30%, while the gross profit of TI and PI is mostly 50%.

Many international laws and regulations have come into effect this year. For example, the US is banned for medium and high-power incandescent lamps, which are good for Asian IC manufacturers. Accumulation has launched new programs for the American market, including the dimming segment, and shipments are currently increasing. In the Japanese market, although the follow-up subsidy program has ended, the market penetration rate is still steadily increasing. So we are very optimistic about the prospects of the entire overseas market, especially the commercial market.

In foreign markets, such as commercial PAR lamps, the most important feature is the requirement to be compatible with thyristors. At present, there is no complete solution for each family, which also provides opportunities for various IC factories to differentiate and win the market. For example, the accumulation of products designed for dimming at both ends does not require compatibility with thyristors, and dimming can be achieved only by using the power switch on the wall itself.

SANCO's comprehensive line of magnetic, Piezo and solid state audio indicators range in size from 9.6 mm to 50 mm with available mounting styles including through hole, surface mount, wire leads, panel mount and screw terminals. Thanks to a built-in driving circuit, our audio indicator buzzers ease implementation during the development process. Several waterproof audio indicators as well as washable models are also available, making this product family well suited to address the needs of the most challenging audio alert applications.
