Demand for OLED flexible screens increases, China will strive for the global flexible screen market

With the huge demand for OLEDs in the market, and the good news from Chinese flexible screen manufacturers, Chinese companies began to compete in the world's flexible screen market. No longer let Samsung be a big one, the growth of Chinese companies gives China the opportunity to lead the development of some flexible display applications.

Chinese manufacturers have also begun to seize the high ground of the world's flexible product market. Some time ago, domestic flexible display manufacturer Visionox produced a new product, the 5.99-inch AMOLED flexible display. The screen is not only thin, clear, but also folds completely like a book.

“This means that you can fold a tablet into a mobile phone, and many domestic mobile phones use our latest flexible AMOLED display,” said Zhang Deqiang, vice president of Vision.

Flexible screens, called OLEDs, are the most common of them. Compared with the traditional liquid crystal display, the OLED screen has the advantages of low power consumption, high brightness, rich color, thinner and lighter, and can be bent.

The flexible screen not only makes the phone frameless design possible, but also can be made into a variety of curved products for smart home, sports fashion, intelligent transportation, robots (18.670, -0.35, -1.84%).

Collapsible mobile theater, transparent flexible smart phone, flexible smart backpack that will "speak"... At the high-tech fair, China's other flexible display manufacturing company, Softwoo Technology, demonstrated their technological strength.

Liu Zihong, Chairman and CEO of Rouyu Technology, said that the three core technologies and products of Rouyu Technology include 0.01 mm of the world's thinnest color flexible display, new flexible electronic sensor, Royole Moon3D head-mounted theater, etc., which have reserved more than 1,300 domestic and foreign stores. Core intellectual property rights and sales of products to more than 20 countries and regions.

In the field of OLED production, South Korea's Samsung has been the only one in recent years. In 2016, Samsung AMOLED panel production capacity was about 370 million pieces, of which flexible AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments reached 0.6 billion pieces, accounting for almost 99% of AMOLED screen panel shipments.

Market research firm IHS Markit predicts that in 2017, OLED sales will reach $21 billion, nearly double the sales in 2015.

The huge demand for OLEDs in the market has made it a must-have for Chinese electronics manufacturers. In the past two years, China's BOE, Visionox, Rouyu, Tianma, Huaxing Optoelectronics and other companies have begun to vigorously deploy OLED related fields.

In the second half of 2017, news of mass production of flexible panels from Chinese domestic manufacturers continued to spread. In September, Visionox announced that the flexible AMOLED "full screen" product was successfully launched, and officially launched the supply to the downstream smart phone industry chain; in November, BOE's sixth-generation flexible AMOLED production line in Chengdu was officially mass-produced. Liu Zihong revealed that the 6th generation fully flexible display of Rouyu Technology will be put into production around the Spring Festival of 2018.

Although mass production is close at hand, the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturers still needs to be improved. According to industry data, Samsung's yield is already above 90%, but the domestic good rate is generally only about 60%. In 2016, the price of Samsung flexible screen has fallen to the same level as LCD screen, and domestic manufacturers are still difficult to achieve. .

Faced with difficulties, Chinese domestic panel makers are actively addressing the technology and cost challenges of flexible screens. At present, in different links of the flexible display industry chain, China has begun to appear as a leader with leading brand potential.

“With the growth of Huawei, BOE, TCL, Visionox and other companies, China has the opportunity to lead the development of some flexible display applications,” said Hu Chunming, deputy secretary-general of the China Optical Optoelectronics Industry Association LCD Branch.
