Sprint's 2.5G spectrum for 5G?

Sprint CEO said that the carrier's low-frequency spectrum can be used for 5G networks, and Sprint will continue to build 4G networks.

2.5GHz is born for 5G

At present, most 5G research and development are aimed at so-called millimeter wave and centimeter wave, including 15GHz, 28GHz, 39ghz, 60GHz, etc., because these can provide operators with a large amount of wireless spectrum in deploying 5G networks. However, Huawei and other US carriers have launched "sub-6ghz" technology for 5G.

After Sprint began to enter the 5G tide at the end of last year, the Swordsman took a slant. Sprint CEO Marcello Claure said in the second quarter earnings report that we believe that the 2.5GHz to 5GHz spectrum is a low-band spectrum in the 5G era.

Previously, Sprint CFO also said that through a large number of network encryption schemes, the choice of small base stations, repeaters and polished rods has been varied. Currently, Sprint is preparing for the construction of 5G networks.

Sprint's 2.5G spectrum for 5G?

It appears that Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum is a higher spectrum. However, 5G will be 10-100 times faster than 4G (depending on who you believe), so you will get more spectrum than 4G.

While other major US carriers have tested millimeter and centimeter waves and applied for licenses, Sprint has pushed 2.5GHz to be the appropriate 5G spectrum concept.

2.5GHz will improve sprint financial status

If the industry recognizes the 2.5GHz spectrum, it will benefit the sprint's finances. Sprint's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) said that by the time sprint will consider renting your 2.5GHz band spectrum, 5G-related impacts can increase its perceived value.

In addition, Sprint also expects it to be a powerful complement to small base stations and macro base stations. Of the company’s $7 billion in fiscal year 2015, network construction accounted for $4.7 billion. RobbiaTI said that the 2016 budget is $3 billion.

This is also one of sprint's cost reduction plans, and the sprint is expected to reduce costs by $2 billion over the next 12 months. Sprint has shrunk $1.3 billion in costs in 2015.

According to data released by sprint, the quarter's revenue was $8.07 billion, down from $8.2 billion in the same period last year. The quarterly loss was $544 million, which was more than the loss last year.
